The page needs updating, here's the updated FAQ (will continue adding to this list until its determined that its sufficient, after market feedback considerations):

  1. What does 'DEG Mods' stand for?
    0.1. Decentralized Game Mods (Modifications).
  2. You don't host mod files?
1.1. We don't handle that directly, but you, as the creator, will.
  3. How do you assure security of game mod files that someone downloads?
2.1. We don't directly assure security. There are multiple systems in place to help users avoid potentially harmful posts. For example, if users don't include a malware scan link of the file that's being provided, then a note would appear warning users (to be implemented). Another example would be for us to hide posts that we've determined is harmful, as well as mark them with a note informing users of its danger (to be implemented). A third example is the web of trust system, an auto moderation system that would act as a filtering layer on the whole site that does the heavy lifting of basic quality control. Most or all of these systems/tools are also available for each individual user on the site, allowing them to have a custom moderated experience, where they can be even more stricter about it. We'll continue adding more systems/tools to help with security and avoiding harmful, illegal, or undesired posts.
  4. What's with the registration/login and account system you have up? Why do I need to install a browser extension?
    3.1 text
  5. You 'can't' remove mods or ban accounts? How does that work?
4.1 I'll try my best to simplify the technicalities of this answer... Because of the nature of Nostr, the 'account' creation process involves the generation/obtaining two cryptographic key pairs, one private (think of that as your password that you cannot change), and one public (think of that as your username that you cannot change). These key pairs are coming from the Nostr protocol itself, and nobody controls Nostr, it's just there. Considering that, we can't 'ban' anyone directly. We might have a mute-list with public addresses that won't show their posts/submissions on this site, but they are still there and accessible by anyone. It's the same with someone's posts, we can't touch those as well. Gist: If someone put a gun to your / the team's head, will you censor or ban anyone? No, because we can't.
  6. You can't do anything about any mod or person? Nothing at all? What about the illegal stuff?
5.1. Direct removal or banning is not possible. We can only filter or hide content on the site, but it remains accessible on here and elsewhere. For those that are hosting said files, people can target the server host to remove it and/or report it to the relevant authorities.
  7. Why did you have to add Bitcoin? Why not traditional payment methods like Visa, PayPal, etc?
6.1. DEG Mods is built around the idea of censorship-resistance and being permissionless, not just anti-censorship, with that in mind, we didn't want to use a system, and in this case a monetary system, where some third party can come in and threat the site, its users and creators, to self-censor or else suffer the consequences of everyone's money frozen, stolen, or not being able to send or receive. There are many examples of such cases.
  8. Do I have to use Bitcoin?
7.1. No, you can use DEG Mods without ever touching it, and you can also add your own payment links (like PayPal, CashApp, Kofi, Patreon, etc) in your profile (we'll be adding a linktree-like system at some point to make this process easy), and people can easily find those link and tip you there, though those tip buttons are only for Bitcoin.
  9. Is this an open-source project?
8.1. Yes, DEG Mods is open-source. You can access the code repository here.
  10. Who's developing / maintaining DEG Mods?
9.1. Considering this is an open-source project, anyone can contribute to its development and maintenance. With that said, the initial idea-tor, designer, and frontend developer is Freakoverse
  11. Who's that character above with the purple hair?
10.1. That's Moda-chan. DEG Mods' mascot. She's a master game mod creator! (Yes, she was AI-generated, as such her design is temporary and will be replaced with a design created by an artist (or artists) when that time comes). Learn more about her here.
  12. What kind of content do you allow, or rather, won't hide?
11.1. As long as its a mod (specially cases were non-mods wouldn't be subject to moderation), is legal, not directly harmful (malware, scam), and isn't spam, then you should be fine.
  13. Is fiction fiction?
    12.1. Yes
