site hangs and blank pages if relay.degmods.com breaks/unreachable #246

Discovered this issue when relay.degmods.com couldn't be reached because domain registrar had it pointing to an incorrect IP.
This has resulted basically in the relay.degmods.com becoming unreachable, which resulted in the following behaviour on the site:

  1. The front page loads normally
  2. Clicking on 'Mods' in the top nav bar makes the site hang with the popup 'fetching'
  3. Going to .com/mods directly in the url field presents an image list of mods (blank page/section) though it loads mods after... let's go with 10 minutes?
